• History
Drug Free Randolph County applied for and was awarded a grant through Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation in mid 2007 to help with tobacco control in Randolph County. The grant cycle began in July 2007 and will be completed in June 2009. One of DFRC’s focuses is the abuse of tobacco by Randolph County youth. DFRC is combating this problem by working with youth and adults – educating as many as possible about the harmful effects of tobacco and the manipulative methods of the tobacco industry. As part of these efforts, DFRC is building Tobacco Free Randolph County, a division of DFRC.
• Goals and Objectives
With the support and guidelines of ITPC, DFRC will be focusing on the following five objectives for the next two years with the goal of decreasing the number of smokers in Randolph County and preventing many from starting:
- Expand the extent of community activism among youth to support community change that includes youth involved in the VOICE movement.
- Increase the proportion of school districts with tobacco-free campuses.
- Increase the proportion of health care providers and health care systems that have fully implemented the Public Health Service guidelines for cessation.
- Expand the extent of participation by partners within the broad-based coalition.
- Expand the extent of participation by groups representing disparately affected populations in the community.
